Looking for a free Nara Baby alternative? Here's what changed, and what your options are
Nara Baby is no longer free: new families get a 7-day trial, then need a monthly or lifetime plan to keep adding entries, though existing data stays viewable and exportable (Nara FAQ, checked 12 October 2026). If you want a free alternative, Milkstop logs feeds, nappies, sleep and growth, and your household can share one log.

What changed with Nara Baby?
Nara Baby used to be a popular free pick. Going by Nara's own FAQ, it's now a paid app with two plans, monthly and lifetime. Both include everything, with no extra premium tiers on top.
How it works now, per Nara:
- A 7-day free trial with full access. It starts when you log your first entry, and you don't need a card to start it.
- No automatic charge when the trial ends. You only pay if you choose a plan.
- If you don't subscribe, you can still view and export what you logged, but you can't add new entries.
- If a subscription lapses, the whole app family becomes read-only (view and export) until someone subscribes again.
On price, Nara's FAQ lists $9.99/month or $99.99 one-time for lifetime, with occasional promotions (currency not stated). In the Australian App Store, plans are listed from A$9.99/month, and lifetime options are listed from A$79.99 (checked 12 October 2026). Prices vary by store, so check what your own App Store shows.
To be fair to Nara: it's ad-free, one payment covers every caregiver you invite, and it's well reviewed (4.9 from 990 ratings in the AU App Store). It also does things Milkstop doesn't, like Apple Watch, Siri and pregnancy and postpartum tracking. If those are what you use every day, paying for Nara may well be worth it.
What happens to your Nara data
Can you still see your history?
Yes. Nara says that without a subscription you can still view and export everything you logged. You just can't add new entries.
How to export a CSV from Nara
From Nara's FAQ:
- Open Nara and go to the main Activity screen.
- Tap the avatar icon next to your child's name.
- Tap Export Data. Nara saves a CSV file.
Nara exports one child at a time, so repeat this for each baby. Save the file somewhere safe, like your email or cloud storage.
Keep your CSV as a record. A CSV opens in any spreadsheet app, whatever app you use next.
What to look for in a free baby log
A few questions worth asking before you pick:
- Is it free for what you use every day? Logging feeds, nappies and sleep shouldn't sit behind a trial.
- Can your partner or carer log too? Shift feeds work best when everyone sees the same log.
- Does it work offline? Signal drops in nurseries, cars and waiting rooms.
- Does it cover how you actually feed? Left, right or both sides, expressing, bottles of expressed milk or formula.
- Can you get your data out? It's your record, so check there's a way to export it.

Milkstop: free shared household log (iOS + web)
Milkstop suits parents who want one simple log the whole household can add to, with no trial to run out. You can log breastfeeds on the left, right or both sides, bottles of expressed milk or formula, expressing, NGT feeds, nappies and sleep, plus custom routines like tummy time. Start and stop a feed or sleep session as it happens, or log it afterwards. Trends shows the last 24 hours at a glance. It works offline and syncs when you're back online. It's free to use, with no feature paywalls. What it doesn't have: Apple Watch, Siri or pregnancy tracking.
How to switch to Milkstop in a few minutes
- Download Milkstop from the App Store, or open milkstop.app in your browser.
- Sign in with Apple or an email code (Google too, on the web). No password needed.
- Create your household and add your baby.
- Share your invite code. In Settings → Family & Household Management, copy your 10-character invite code and send it to your partner or carer. When they first sign in, they tap "Joining a partner's family? Use an invite code" and enter it.
- Log the next feed. That's it.
There's more detail on setting up a shared household in our help pages.
Getting the most from your log in the first weeks
Keep it light. The log is there to save you doing sums at 3am, not to give you another job.
- Log as you go, or after. If you're mid-feed with one free hand, start a session and stop it later. If you forget, add it afterwards. Nobody's marking it.
- Use notes when they help. A quick note after a breastfeed can jog your memory later. Our guide to logging breastfeeding sides and notes walks through the options.
- Nappies take one tap. Wet, dirty or both. See keeping track of nappies for more.
- Hand over with the log open. When you swap shifts, the next person can see the last feed and nappy without waking you.
- Turn off what you don't need. Not expressing? Turn it off under Settings → Baby & Routine Profiles → Amend so the screen stays simple.
