How to share a baby log with your partner (and grandparents)
Yes, you and your partner can share one baby log. In Milkstop, one of you creates a household and shares its invite code, the other joins with their own sign-in, and you both log feeds, nappies and sleep to the same record, which syncs when online. Grandparents and carers can join the same way.
We make Milkstop, so weigh our view accordingly.
Why share one log?
When more than one of you is looking after a baby, the details get scattered across phones, notebooks and group chats. A shared log keeps them in one place.
- Handovers are simpler. Whoever's taking the next stretch can open the log and see the last feed, the last nappy and when the baby last slept, without waking anyone to ask.
- Fewer "when did she last feed?" texts. The answer is already in the log.
- One record for check-ups. If your midwife, child health nurse or GP asks how feeds or nappies (diapers) have been going, you've got one history to look at instead of two half-histories.
How to share your Milkstop log (step by step)
You can do this in Milkstop on iPhone or at milkstop.app in a browser. The steps are the same. Each person signs in with their own account using Apple, Google or an email code.
- Open Family & Household Management. Tap the Settings (gear) icon, then go to the Family & Household Management section.
- Copy your invite code. Under Caregiver Invite Code, tap Copy.
- Send it to your partner. Paste the code into a text, WhatsApp or email.
- Your partner joins. Your partner signs in with their own account. On the welcome screen, they tap "Joining a partner's family? Use an invite code", enter the code under Household Invite Code, and tap Join Household & Continue.
- Check it's working. Log your next feed or nappy. Entries you log offline are saved on your phone and upload when you're back online. Your partner's entries appear when you come back to Milkstop, or pull down on the log to refresh.
The code is 10 characters and isn't case-sensitive. It doesn't expire, and you can give the same code to everyone you want to invite.
Has your partner already set up a baby of their own? In Settings, they tap Switch or Manage Other Households, then Join Another Existing Household, enter the code and tap Join.
Our household and invite code help has more detail.
Separate sign-ins, one household
You don't need to share a password or take turns on one account. Each person signs in as themselves and joins the same household, and everything you log goes into the household's shared record.
Each entry shows who logged it, for example "• by Sam", using the person's first name (or the start of their email address if they haven't set a name). Exports include a Logged By column too, so it's easy to see who did the 3am feed.
When one of you has no signal
You can keep logging without signal. Entries are saved on your phone and upload when you're back online. If an entry can't sync, Milkstop tells you rather than quietly dropping it, so you can try again.
If your partner can't see an entry
It's usually one of these.
- Check the phone it was logged on. If you see "Saved locally (2 pending)", "Saved locally, pending upload" or "Offline", the entry is on that phone and will upload once it's back online. If you see "2 entries couldn't sync." or "Sync failed. Tap to retry.", tap "Retry" when you have signal.
- Make sure you're both signed in. If one phone shows "Please sign in again", sign in, and its entries will carry on uploading.
- Check you're in the same household, with the same baby. You both need to have joined with the Caregiver Invite Code, and the same baby needs to be selected at the top of the screen.
- On your partner's phone, go back to Milkstop or pull down on the log. When you come back to Milkstop, it reloads the log, so new entries appear. Pulling down on the log refreshes it.
- If that doesn't help, update the app.
If any entries haven't synced, Milkstop tells you before you log out and offers to sync them first. If your sign-in expires, entries that haven't synced stay on your phone until you sign in again.
Still stuck? Our support page has more on household sharing.
Sharing more than one baby
Twins, or a toddler and a newborn? Add each baby to the same household. Everyone in the household can see, log, edit and delete entries for every baby. To switch babies, tap the baby's name at the top of the screen.
Who can do what
The person who created the household is its owner. Everyone who joins is a caregiver. Everyone in the household can add entries and edit or delete any entry, view charts and export records. Nobody is view-only.
The one thing only the owner can do is reset the invite code. The owner can tap Reset to get a new code. The old code stops working straight away, and people already in the household stay connected.
Only share your code with people you trust, because anyone who joins can see and change every entry in the household.
Adding grandparents, nannies and night carers
Grandparents, a nanny, a night carer or a friend who takes a shift can join with the same invite code, and they get exactly the same access as a partner. Invite whoever helps care for your baby.
It's worth a quick chat about what they'll log. For example, if a grandparent is doing an afternoon so you can rest, ask them to log bottles, nappies and naps as they go, so you can see how the afternoon went when you take over again.
If someone helps more than one family, or you co-parent across two homes, that works too. One account can belong to more than one household. Join another with its code under Switch or Manage Other Households, then pick it under Switch Active Household.
For dads and partners
If you want to share the load as a dad or partner, keeping the log is part of that. You don't need a separate "dad app" for it. What makes a shared log work is both of you using the same app, so everything lands in one record instead of two.
A few jobs a dad or partner can take on:
- Bottle feeds, whether expressed milk or formula
- Nappies, wet, dirty or both
- Settling and sleep, including the naps you get them down for
- The night shift, so the other parent can sleep through a stretch
Log them to the same household and the handover is clear: the next person can see what's already happened, and who did it.
A simple split for the night shift
There's no right way to split the nights, and every family works out its own version. What helps is agreeing who logs what. One simple approach: whoever does a feed, change or settle logs it before going back to bed, even if it's only a tap or two. In the morning you both have the same picture of the night.
What to look for in any shared baby tracker
Whatever app you go with, it's worth checking these before you both start logging:
- Each person has their own sign-in, so nobody shares a password.
- Everyone can add entries, not just view them.
- Logging works without signal, and entries catch up when you're back online.
- It runs on both your phones.
- Sharing doesn't cost extra, or the cost is clear upfront.
- You can export your records, so your history isn't stuck in one app.
Other apps, such as Huckleberry, Pebbi and Baby Tracker by Nighp, handle sharing in different ways, so check their own help pages. For a side-by-side look, see how sharing compares across baby tracker apps. And if you're moving from Nara Baby, our Nara Baby alternative page may help.
In Milkstop, each person signs in as themselves, everyone in the household can add entries, entries logged offline sync when you're back online, and you can export your records as a CSV or PDF. Milkstop is free to use, with no subscriptions and no feature paywalls.

FAQs
Can my partner and I use the same baby tracker?
Yes. In Milkstop, you share your household's invite code, your partner joins with their own sign-in, and you both log to one record that syncs when online.
What's a good baby tracker app for dads?
Look for one that both parents use, rather than a separate dad app, so everything ends up in one log. In Milkstop, dads and partners log bottles, nappies and sleep in the same household log as everyone else.
Can grandparents or a babysitter log too?
Yes. Anyone you give the invite code to can join your household and log.
Does sharing work without internet?
You can keep logging without signal. Entries are saved on your phone and upload when you're back online.

Is Milkstop free?
