Bottle feeding tracker: how to keep one log with your partner

A bottle feeding tracker helps everyone who gives bottles keep one record. Log each bottle as you give it, with the time, what was in it and the amount if you want it saved. In Milkstop, everyone in the household logs to the same baby, and the log syncs when you're online with the app open.

We make Milkstop, so weigh our view accordingly.

What to write in a bottle feed log

A bottle log is a record of what happened, so whoever's on next doesn't have to guess. It usually covers:

  • The time the bottle was given.
  • What was in it, such as formula or expressed breast milk.
  • The amount, if you choose to record it.
  • Who gave it, so you're not asking each other at 2am.
  • A short note, if there's something worth remembering.

This page is about keeping a record, not about how much or how often to feed. Milkstop is a personal log, not medical advice. If you have questions about bottle feeding, talk to your midwife, child health nurse or GP.

Logging a bottle in Milkstop

  1. Start a bottle from the dock at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Stop when the bottle's done. The timer ends and the sheet opens already filled in.
  3. Add the amount if you like. There's one optional Amount field, in mL or fl oz, and an optional Duration (min).
  4. Pick what's in the bottle. Choose EBM (expressed breast milk), Formula, or FFEBM (fortified expressed breast milk). The type is saved when you enter an amount.
  5. Check "Recording for" if you used the + button. If you added the bottle with the + button, check "Recording for" shows the right baby.
  6. Tap Save. The bottle appears in your log. See who logged each entry in your history.

Logging a bottle after the fact? Tap the + button in the centre of the dock to open the "New entry" sheet. Pick Feed, then Bottle, set the "Date" and "Time", and tap "Save". You can log past times, but not future ones. To change an entry later, open it and the same sheet appears as "Edit entry".

Units

Units are set for each baby. Go to Settings > Baby & Routine Profiles > Logging Style & Units > Liquid Volumes, and the Amount field shows mL or fl oz to match.

Combination feeding

Breastfeeds, expressing and bottles all sit in the same timeline, so if you're combination feeding you can see the whole day in one place. For a bottle, you can add a note in the "Notes" box under "Notes & measurements". Feed notes are separate and are for breastfeeds only. For notes on breastfeeds, see adding a note after a breastfeed.

See our breastfeeding tracker app page.

Sharing bottle duty

Bottles are a good job to share, and a shared log makes handovers simple.

  1. Share your invite code. In Settings, under Family & Household Management, copy your Caregiver Invite Code and send it to your partner, or a grandparent or carer who helps out.
  2. They join with their own sign-in. From then on, everyone logs to the same record.
  3. Check before you feed. See who logged each entry in your history. Whoever's on next can see the last bottle.

Entries sync when you're online with the app open. To see the latest entries from others, pull down on the log to refresh or reopen the app.
