Baby Feeding, Sleep, Nappy & Growth Log

A baby tracker that works offline (and in the dark)

Yes, some baby trackers work offline. In Milkstop you can log feeds, sleep and nappies with no signal. Entries are saved on your phone and sync automatically when you're back online with the app open. Then your partner can refresh the log to see them. Dark mode keeps the screen dim at night.

We make Milkstop, so weigh our view accordingly.

When offline logging matters

Babies don't wait for good reception. A few places you might find yourself without signal:

  • Hospital wards, where reception can drop out in the middle of the building.
  • Regional and rural areas, or the drive to see family.
  • Flights, with the phone in flight mode.
  • That one room in the house where the signal never quite reaches.

If your tracker needs a connection to save an entry, those are the moments you'll end up trying to remember a feed time later.

How offline logging works in Milkstop

When you log something without signal, Milkstop saves it on your phone straight away. When you're back online with the app open, it syncs to your household.

Routines you add, like tummy time, work offline too and sync later.

  • Feeds, sleep, nappies and more can all be logged offline.
  • Edits and deletes wait too. If you change or delete an entry while offline, that change syncs when you're back online with the app open.
  • Your partner sees it after sync. Once your phone has synced, your partner can pull down on the log to refresh, or reopen the app, to see your entries.
  • On the web too. At milkstop.app you can keep logging when the connection drops, and entries sync when you're back online with the app open.

Seeing what's waiting to sync

When entries are waiting, the header shows "Saved locally (N pending)", where N is the number waiting, with a Sync button once you're online. Those entries are safe on this device until they sync. If you're offline with nothing waiting, the header just says "Offline". Once everything has synced, the message goes away.

You'll need a connection the first time you sign in, and to join a household. After that, you can log without signal.

If an entry can't sync

Now and then an entry can't sync. When that happens, Milkstop marks it "Couldn't sync" and gives you two options: Try again, or Delete.

Entries that haven't synced stay on this device. If you log out while some are still waiting, Milkstop warns you first with "Log out now?" and tells you how many haven't synced. You can choose Cancel or "Log out anyway", and when you're online and signed in, "Try syncing". Logging out anyway removes those entries from this device.

Logging at 3am: dark mode

There's a dark mode for night feeds. In Settings > Display > Appearance & Display, set Display Theme Mode to System, Light or Dark. System follows your device's own setting. The choice is saved on each device, so you and your partner can each pick your own.

What to look for in an offline baby tracker

If working without signal matters to you, here's a short checklist for any app you're considering:

  • Does it save entries with no signal at all, not just with weak signal?
  • Does it show you clearly when something hasn't synced?
  • Does it share with your partner once you're back online?
  • Does it have a dark mode for night feeds?
  • Can you export your records if you ever want a copy?

Tap Export to save your records as a CSV spreadsheet or a printable PDF, one baby at a time.
