Free baby sleep tracker: log naps and nights without a subscription
Yes, you can track your baby's sleep for free. Milkstop logs naps and night sleep as sleep sessions alongside feeds and nappies, shared with your partner, with no subscriptions. Napper is free to download with paid plans for its sleep schedules and nap-time suggestions. If you just want a shared record of sleep, a free log covers it.
We make Milkstop, so weigh our view accordingly.
Logging sleep vs sleep-schedule apps
Baby sleep apps tend to do one of two jobs, and some do both.
A sleep log records what happened. You note when your baby went down and when they woke, for naps and overnight. Over days and weeks, you build up a record you can look back on, share with your partner, or bring to a check-up.
A sleep-schedule app looks ahead. It uses what you've logged to suggest when your baby might next nap or go to bed, and may offer plans, courses or sounds. Some apps charge for these features.
Neither is right or wrong. It just depends on what you want from the app. Milkstop is a log. It records sleep, and it doesn't suggest nap times, make schedules or give sleep advice.
Using Smart Sleep Coach by Pampers? Pampers says it closes on 30 November 2026. Here's how to save your data and keep logging sleep.
It's a personal log, not medical advice. If you have questions about your baby's sleep, talk to your midwife, child health nurse or GP.
How sleep logging works in Milkstop
Sleep sits in the same log as feeds, nappies (diapers) and growth, so you can see the whole day in one place.
- Start and end a sleep session. Start one from the dock when your baby goes down, and stop it when they wake. The log sheet opens filled in so you can save it. You can also log a sleep afterwards with a start and end time.
- Per baby. Each sleep is saved to the baby selected in the top bar, which helps if you have twins or siblings.
- Shared with your household. Your partner, grandparents or carers join with your invite code and their own sign-in. Each entry shows who logged it, for example "• by Sam".
- Dark mode for night. Choose Light, Dark or System for logging at 3am.
- Works offline. Keep logging without signal; entries sync when online.
- Look back. Your Timeline and Trends show sleep alongside feeds and nappies.
- Export. Download your records as CSV or PDF, up to 5 exports per hour per household.
And what Milkstop doesn't do:
- No Apple Watch app.
- No widgets.
- No sleep schedules or nap-time suggestions.
Milkstop is free to use, with no subscriptions and no feature paywalls.

Other free ways to log sleep
You don't need an app at all. A notebook by the cot or a note on your phone works fine. It's just harder to share with a partner. Other baby tracker apps have free versions too.
